Distribution of Brachyteles *

The area of distribution of the muriqui used to include the south of the state of Bahia, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Paraná brazilian States. Muriquis can be found inhabiting primary and secondary forests. Currently, its populations occupy several small fragments and the largest known population is currently found at the Carlos Botelho State Park.

Recent registrations of the species are uncertain and surely do not include Bahia State anymore. Come back here soon to see a complete update of current field sites wehre muriquis are confirmed to be found, despite the several threats that wild populations face nowadays.
